I bought a System76 Darter Pro just under 2 years ago for college and I love it! It works really well and I have had very few issues. It still works well to this day, so even though they are expensive, they are powerful and they last! Also the best battery experience I've gotten out of any Linux laptop.

Their support team is also really good! I can tell that I'm talking to a human that cares about my experience and wants to solve the problem. If anyone in my life inquires about a Linux laptop, I am quick to recommend System76 due to their excellent quality and customer support!

I have a System 76 Lemur Pro laptop. The USB-C port has stopped working less that 3 years after buying it. They want about $500 to repair the laptop. This is the most important port on the computer and they want 1/3 of the cost of the laptop to fix it. I would expect a laptop to last longer than that.

Feeling Abandoned – Returned Laptop, Broken Promises, and No Refund

**Before diving into my experience, I recommend that anyone returning a laptop from System76 should open a bank dispute and keep it open—don’t close it—because they promise to close it only after processing a refund, which they often fail to do.**I

I returned my System76 laptop due to a persistent battery defect, fully expecting a refund as promised by their support team. They even instructed me to close a dispute, which I promptly did, trusting that this would expedite the refund process. However, after more than three weeks, not only have I yet to see my refund, but my inquiries have gone completely unanswered.

Initially, the support was responsive and helpful, but after I followed their instructions to close the dispute, all communication ceased. It’s incredibly frustrating to have followed their procedures only to be left in limbo with no resolution. I’ve also seen similar experiences from other customers online, which only adds to my disappointment.

I really hope System76 steps up their customer service and honors their promises so that no one else has to go through this stressful ordeal.

Thoroughly unimpressed. The motherboard on my Thelio went out, and while diagnosing that, customer support was incredibly slow and consistently offered unhelpful tips, including asking to check things that weren't even on the model of motherboard used on my machine. I eventually contacted my technically knowledgeable friends and they were far more helpful than System76 customer support was. Trying to replace parts on the machine is a complete nightmare because System76 for some reason designs so many parts in custom ways that make them incompatible with most replacements, for instance having the case have a built-in I/O shield thus making many motherboards fundamentally incompatible with the case. I'm only rating this 2 stars rather than 1 because I'm glad for people who promote Linux, though within this this has turned out to be a nightmare experience.

Was told I would speak to a tech about my week old computer.
No response after calling twice.
Why call it customer service when there is no service?

This is actually a second review. Having update issues like I had originally. Got a call from customer service this morning at 8:19am PST. She woke me up so I had no idea until we hung up what time it actually was. I told her a call back at 10:00 would be great. She said I will call you in 40 minutes. Got up before 9:00am to get the computer ready. It is now 2 hours since our call and have not heard back. I will ask the same question again. Why do they call it customer service? This is my second System 76 computer. It will be my last. Spend your money elsewhere.

This is serious tech for anyone curious in some serious computer science.

I'm a sysadmin that has been made bitter by proprietary tech/software but I was blown away by System76' service and product quality.

I just received my new Gazelle laptop (gaze15) and it's really an incredible laptop. I'm a long time user of several different Linux distros, mainly Ubuntu for personal use and RHEL/Centos, for work and I can't tell you how many times I've installed some distro on a Linux box/laptop and had driver/device issues....
Everything worked out of box.

Granted, I'm going to spend the next several hours/days configuring this bad boy to where I want it to be, but that's expected when you're trying to avoid cloning an old HDD/SSD.

The folks at System76 kept me updated at every step of the production/shipping process and the machine even arrived a couple days sooner than I was actually expecting. Super friendly, approachable and always welcoming of questions/concerns.

I'm already incredibly used to Ubuntu (budgie) and honestly I never tried Pop!_OS in the past but I thought, "hey why not give it a try", and honestly it's really growing on me. It's incredibly configurable, totally pleasing to the eye and you still have the control of a bare-bones, do-everything-yourself Ubuntu distro.

I'd highly recommend System76 if you're a long-time Linux user looking to step your game or even if you're new to Linux and just looking to break away from the other two brands that run the corporate CS world.

I have 1 recommendation if, it's easy/inexpensive to implement:

for your laptops: include hardware diagrams for those of us that want to either modify/take apart/upgrade the hardware
