My husband and I have been going to them for about 8 to 10 years now, and they are just very pleasant and easy to deal with. Our taxes were not very complex early on, but we have since bought a home and added a few dependents since then and the accountants have always been really great with walking us through any new tax laws or exemptions we qualify for. I personally prefer private tax consultants over companies like H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt, where you might get someone really good one year and the next year get someone that isn't as thorough.

Got our taxes done in 2021 with Penevolpe and after they were sent in I checked the status of my return weeks later and it said something was wrong. Turns out they spelt my last name and my 3 kids last names wrong on our return which greatly affected our refund. They spelt my husbands name correct though. We have the same last name. I called and left multiple messages and they never returned my calls. Absolutely terrible!

Do NOT get your taxes done at Penevolpe and Penevolpe in Beachwood. Here is my horrible experience: We have been going to them for over ten years. They were suggested to us through friends. The friends that suggested them to us after five years or so had a horrible experience also, as did my in-laws and some other people I talked to. However, I’m a pretty honest guy, so since they never did anything to me, I continued to go there. This year I dropped my taxes off in March. I received my packet back in April. It said the amount that I should be expecting back. About three months later, I still had not gotten my money direct deposited into my account. I figured it was taking the IRS a lot longer due to COVID and being so backed up. As I talked to friends, they had filed after me and already received their money back. So, I called Penevolpe. I had to call about 10 times in 10 days to get through leaving 10 messages. I did not receive a call back, I called the 11th time and finally got someone on the phone. Their answer was “I don’t know, we’ll have to get back to you on that” Again, no call back. Mind you...I already paid them $200 for their service. So, after them not returning my calls for another week, I had my Mother in Law go in and grab the paperwork off their desk. I brought it to another accountant and he explained to me that they left my Daughter off as a dependent who is 15 and they filled my 5 year olds daycare credit out wrong shorting me $2,600. My new tax guy is going to “amend” this so hopefully I will be able to get my money back. All Penevolpe had to do is admit they made a mistake and amended it and all would have been fine. Instead I had to go through all of this. To boot...Penevolpe didn’t know my Mother in Law was picking up the paperwork off his desk. Inside he left the forms that he was filling out to send back into the IRS without my Daughter as a dependent and not correcting the daycare form, which if he sent that in, I would have never seen that $2,600 that was owed to me. No one should have to go through anything like this with any so called “professional”.

THEY refused to correct their mistake on the paperwork. Please reread my post. I spoke to the IRS. They explained to me that if the paperwork was filled out correctly there wouldn't have been a problem. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, but at least make it right for your customers if you do. Especially customers that have been going to you for over a decade. If I didn't catch this mistake myself, I would have been out $2,600. This situation had NOTHING to do with the IRS. It was the incompetence of Penevolpe
