Today my family had a phone appointment with Emily to discuss moving our accounts over to her as our current agent was downsizing due to health issues. The initial contact and preparations were with Patty where she asked many questions regarding our goals and then requested copies of our accounts. For the meeting we took time away from work and also included our adult daughter with her Edward Jones Account. During the phone meeting Emily explained that she really isn't accepting new clients due to her current level and commitment to family time. These are very reasonable things to consider but I asked why they needed our statements if they are not accepting new clients. Emily explained that most of her clients have investments values at $x to over $x. Well our accounts did not meet that level at this particular time. It instantly became clear that the busy life, full client list and family life was not the reason. It was about money, money, money. It is fine to be in a place where you don't accept clients or have qualifications, but this should be at the beginning of the conversation not try to use other reasons for not accepting a client. This is a waste of everyone's time.

While the ending was good that we did not switch to an agent which only cares about money whereas we wanted someone we could trust, relate to, and grow our investments with. Our plan was to move some investments from other assets into Edward Jones which would have easily reached her client levels. We did not get to that point but it is good because accepting us based on just the money would have resulted in a poor relationship down the road. What is more disappointing is the amount of time we committed to this meeting including our daughter who is home for a limited time. Now we wasted time we could have spend reaching out to other potential agents. When considering this agent and office, maybe consider if you want a person that wants you and your money or just your money? That is the question to ask yourself. I did contact the office and spoke to Patty shortly after the meeting to share the experience and that I wanted to speak to her before sharing the experience in a review.
