Having been in the FileMaker community for over 30 years, I had heard good things of Codence and decided to hire them to assist on API Filemaker scripting that was beyond my skill set. I wanted a company that had been around a long time and will be around for the long run in case we need changes. That is why they were selected. Making it clear we are small business on a limited budget, I was given a budgetary quote of a few thousand dollars to get to a phase 1 milestone.

We were shocked that the total quickly ran up over $10,000 without a breakdown or a statement, and; the milestone had not even been met. We were able to amicably sort it out with Scott and get the first phase actually working. It turns out the so-called project manager had green lighted the second phase without our permission, thus part of the reason for going so far over the phase one budget. The over-riding problem, as I had discussed with Scott, is that he has a project manager who is ineffective, runs up the bill for non development time, uses poor judgement and poor business sense of what is needed. This caused the biggest problem, not the actual developer, who was highly skilled and worked quickly. In the end, despite the problems discussed, we had a successful script.

Within the first year we needed to follow up to request important tweaks to the script which we were perfectly happy to pay for. Was it a a good thing we hired a firm like Codence who would be there for us? Well, not so fast buddy.

We found out the developer for our project was no longer employed by Codence and no one there was familiar with her work. Apparently they had only hired her as a remote freelancer for our job. In essence, there was no long-term benefit of hiring Condence, particularly with such turnover. Scott effectively blew us off advising that, without the departed developer they would "have to start at square one". Without the developer's knowledge he bizzarely explained, "we don’t bring any insight to the table" that you couldn't get elsewhere.

He suggested we try to track her down as a freelancer despite his contract which prohibits us from doing so for a period of 2 years. Yes, it is all nutty—save yourself the grief.

It is a myth to think Codence has their own (Colorado USA) in-house development staff ready for hire and will stay with you for the real world long-term relationship. Their actions leave little choice than conclude they are like a temp labor agency looking for a quick-flip gig, with a big payout and no strings attached.

The bottom line is-- you would be best to hire your own freelancer than hire a company like Codence who outsources their development; has a big-firm overhead; a small firm mindset; and will feel zero obligation to be there for you tomorrow despite taking your $10,000 yesterday.

We are a small visiting nursing company called FootCare by Nurses, that specializes in providing foot care to the elderly in their homes. We had the traveling salesman problem and our scheduling software could not help us. We found Scott and his Codence team quite by accident (a google search for FileMaker) and my first words were … “I have no idea if you can help”. Scott listened, took the time to understand our issues, and helped us understand how his team could help us. Investing in software is expensive but with what Codence has built for us we have been able to far more quickly see opportunities and road blocks which has made us able to add 4000 more visits this year. Our investment has paid for itself. Not only that but we can continue to scale. We didn’t need to be able to speak code. We still don’t. We needed Scott’s team to be able to help us … and they have… and continue to do so … lovingly, even when things don’t go quite according to plan. We cannot say enough good things.

If you are needing anything done to your Filemaker system, look no further. Codence has been exceptional throughout the months we have worked with them. They are extremely easy to work with, professional and knowledgeable. They have helped my company not only realize our vision, but Codence has suggested ways to grow upon our rough ideas. We worked primarily with Ryan, and have only fantastic things to say. He has been imaginative and very attentive to our needs and changes. I would absolutely work with them again. I absolutely recommend them.

There is no doubt that Codence has provided us with a hiring/training/development process that we could not have come close to doing on our own...twice! From the recruitment process to the training to the final presentation and transition to working for Health Street, the internship program at Codence has been a well oiled machine.

I hired this company to do work on my Filemaker database. I am a small business and made it clear that my budget was limited. I ended up with a revamped database that had very little functionality that my old, less pretty database had, and did not have the functionality that I requested. Some of the solutions I got included such complicated and bizarre workarounds that my old methods were more time effective to use than what they implemented and charged me for. Furthermore, my project was farmed out to someone who was not even listed on their website as an employee. The discussing of my project amongst themselves and handoff to a new employee alone cost me $455. They charged me $1,452.50 for emailing me, and several of these emails were very long, detailed, complicated questionnaires about my issues that could have been solved quickly with a phone call. The overall project cost more than triple what had been discussed and did not solve the problems that were my motivation for working on the system in the first place. Worst of all was that when I was unsatisfied the company agreed to make the final product functional, but refused to satisfy my complaints and were fine leaving me feeling very ripped off. In summary, they know what they are doing and are very skilled, but make sure things are hammered out in writing and keep in mind that it seems the bottom line is more important to them than customer satisfaction.
