I have been going to John Bensfield for my tax preparation and financial investments for over 40 years. He and his staff are very knowledgeable about the tax laws and changes that occur every year. I could easily do my return myself but have found that I am not familiar with the always changing tax items. Where John and his staff make a point of asking those important questions regarding changes. He also makes suggestions on what I can do to increase my refund for future years.

Regarding financial investments: I worked in a profession that did not do any retirement planning. I put my trust in John to invest my money and I am happy to say at the age of 57, I am now retired and living comfortably. One time someone said to me, "I don't know how he (John) does it but whatever he touches turns to GOLD". I believe allowing John to make your investment decisions will result in a nice "nest egg" and early retirement because that is exactly what he did for me.

I had been going to Bloom Associates for 7 years for my annual tax return. My return is very straightforward, and I could have done it on my own or with TurboTax. However, I thought that having a CPA added a bit of security that made up for the (surprisingly large) fee.
This year, however, there was a problem with my Illinois state return that was entirely the fault of Bloom. This resulted in over a two thousand dollar reduction in my return! When I called them about this, they admitted their error... but said they were too busy with preparing other returns to meet with me! Only after calling them many times did I get help with filing an amended return.
So, this was a matter of both incompetence and poor customer service. Why would anyone trust them with their taxes?
