Visiting Barnof Castle Historic Site near Sitka was an incredible experience! The castle’s architecture is breathtaking, and walking through its ancient halls felt like stepping back in time. The views from the towers are spectacular, offering a stunning panorama of the surrounding countryside, a perfect photo opportunity! The gardens are beautifully maintained and provide a serene place to relax.

I highly recommend a visit to Barnof Castle if you’re in the Sitka area. It’s a perfect blend of history, beauty, and adventure!

This was the site where the hand-off of Alaska from the Russians to the USA during the purchase. It is a beautiful viewpoint today with a panoramic view of the area.

This was a special hike to a special place. There were no cruises in this day so we had the whole hill to ourselves. Bald Eagles flying all around us and beautiful blue skies were abundant. The views were spectacular and we took out time taking them in. The history and the energy of this hill was intense. So much happened here. If you’re in town, visit. Enjoy.

Stumbled upon this cute little piece of history while out walking the town. a small path leads to the top and there are stirs down the backside that lead into the heart of the walking loop. there are some nice plaques that explain the historical significance. The view from the top is worth the stroll, a wonderful photo opportunity with some history sprinkled in.

When visiting Sitka, this spot is a must! Located up a small hill behind the city, you'll have breathtaking views of the mountain range and water, including Mount Edgecomb (when it isn't hiding behind clouds)! Also available are informational plaques telling you about the rich history.
Stairs and well-marked path are available.
