Angi’s List is No Longer Trustworthy

I used to trust Angi (formerly Angie’s List) for contractor recommendations, but my recent experience has changed that. Two highly rated vendors on Angi turned out to have terrible reviews on Google and Yelp, which raises serious concerns about their rating system. After researching, I found that Angi allows businesses to pay for better placement, and negative reviews seem to get filtered or buried.

Funny thing, their contractors hates them too.

Review Title: Poor Quality Leads from Angi

I have been using Angi's service to get leads for my business, and I am very disappointed with the quality of the leads provided. Despite paying for this service, the leads I receive are often irrelevant, unresponsive, or not serious about hiring.

One major issue is I have to pay someone to call or email the potential customer, only to find out that 98% of the name's they send either doesn't exist, or they never asked for a quote or estimate. Basically, I pay them to waste our employee's time. I paid for a whole year and only got one small job, and 2 small repairs. It's one of the worst rip offs I have ever experienced.

Overall, I do not feel that Angi's lead service is worth the investment and would not recommend it to other businesses.

Do NOT become an Angi contractor!! Worst mistake of my life. Thought it would be a good way to get leads but I pay $650 a month for fake leads and rude people who are just comparing you to other quotes. 1 month they didn’t even send me a single lead. And they bind you to a year long contract without telling you! And if you try to cancel you have to pay 35% of your entirely 12 month cost. Be careful everybody and stay away!

New Angi website will not let us log in. Even when I reset password and login using the new info, it only ever redirects me to the "Join for Free" page. I've even deleted all my cookies and browsing data several times. Only lets us try to create a new account. But when we try to make a new account, it has an error if we use the existing email address.

We have emailed the customer we just received a lead for, but cannot call him because of the HomeAdvisor > Angi change and they're requiring us to enter the phone number we want to use. The big problem is they only accept a cell phone number, but we don't want any of our employee's cell phone numbers advertised to any customers, much less potential customers who are strangers. It won't accept our internet number even though it accepts text messages.

This new platform is a joke, and Angi should not be billing anyone for leads until they can get it resolved.

Angi severely damaged my granite countertop by scratching during a normal cleaning job and then refused to refund me for the re-honing job that was required. We were out of the home at the time, and by the time we came back and noticed, it was beyond the 72 hours that Angi's small-print policies allow for damage claims, so they outright rejected to pay anything. So I'm out over $1000. I'm angry and out of money. Never use Angi for anything!! You've been warned.

Worthless. I bought a garage door opener from Lowes that uses Angi contractors to install. They cancelled all three appointments and terminated the contract after I had taken time off to be at home on all three occasions.

I canceled service with them and a year later they charge my business account the annual service fee, causing my account to be overdrawn. They refused to reimburse me the overdraft fee and made me wait their standard 7 to 10 day for a refund, refusing to expedite returning the funds. A couple years before ending service I let my card they had on file expire so they wouldn't charge it, but they continued to charge the expired card, even though they've sent me notifications that my card expired.

Horrible company. Do not trust what they say. They promised to provide good homeowners looking for service, and instead provided me with fraudulent leads. Most leads did not even register for the service or agree to a call, which put my business at risk.

Additionally, they promised a refund if 10 leads were duds. They then failed to make good on that promise, citing a mere technicality. Horrible company
