I started to feel ill mid November after eating raw seafood for lunch. Had stomach upset, was weak and sore, had erratic BM's and pain scale of 8 of 10. Called Dr. RAO who said that a colonoscopy was needed to find cause of this sudden change. Procedure was done mid December. I am now feeling better than I have been in a long time with a few minor diet adjustments.and no raw seafood.

Appointment time means nothing to Dr. Ali Shahid and his staff. They do not respect and value your time. Waisting my lunch hour and causing me to be late back to work.

Literally worse place ever. Got an appointment at 3 and went on time. They told me one of the staff will be call me “shortly”. I’ve been waiting for more than an hr. Literally came in on a right time and they make you wait more. When I ask when it’s my turn, they told me very soon. Afterward, I waited another 10 minutes until they call my name, and i notice one of the front office lady were laughing when I was finally got called in. After I enter the room, i waited another 15 minutes, then the doctor finally came and released me after 5 minutes of talking. Wasting my time for a short amount of examining. Oh and don’t get me started, they close the door and make you wait. The room is small and unbreathable this is unacceptable

Dr Rao genuinely cares about her patients. I have been one of her patients for many years. One time I was scheduled for two procedures but her office failed to get insurance approval for both procedures. Dr Rao said this patient needs both procedures and I'm doing both procedures even if I have to pay for one myself. The insurance paid for both procedures and I have never forgotten what Dr Rao said she would do for me. That day Dr Rao became my hero. And she has remained so to this very day.

I was seen by Dr Shah, and this experience has completely redefined how I view doctors.
To start off- the rest of the staff were helpful and kind, I would’ve had a good experience had I been seen by someone else.
I did have to wait about an hour after my scheduled appointment time to be called back to take my weight/vitals. I was then made to wait another hour to be seen by Dr Shah. My boyfriend was very upset by this- but I figured Dr. Shah was busy with other patients- I wasn’t too bothered.
When he finally does enter the room, he immediately starts to ask me a million questions, but interrupts me every time I try to give him the answer. He was very dismissive, and almost refused to look at me when speaking to me, it was like he was directing the questions to my boyfriend (later my boyfriend commented that he seemed incredibly misogynistic, and honestly I have NEVER experienced that with a male doctor before). He pressed on my abdomen for 10 seconds at most, saying he doesn’t feel anything and that “ovarian cysts aren’t a gastro issue, im not sure why you would come here”. I KNOW THAT. I had both a CT scan AND an ultrasound at the ER to confirm it wasn’t cysts, and was then told to see a gastroenterologist.
After maybe 5 mins MAX with him after 2 hours of waiting, he leaves to help another patient. While he does this, I press on my lower abdomen because I KNOW there’s a fairly large lump there. I immediately find it, and when he comes back in another 30 mins later I told him I found the lump, and asked if he could try again to feel it. He actually refused Then he said he “didn’t need to know” that it sounds like “I’m just constipated”. (Once again refusing to look at me when speaking- only looking at my boyfriend and literally asking my BOYFRIEND these questions).
I was so upset- that was it for me. I’ve been constipated before, I’m almost 30 and I know my body. I’m the kind of person who will wait to see a doctor until im in critical condition, needing to be hospitalized. I just get too scared, and don’t like to spend the unnecessary money.
I started crying, I told him it’s NOT constipation, I can’t use the bathroom - not due to blockage but swelling of some kind. When I would cough or place pressure on my abdomen it felt like something was going to burst. The pain has kept me awake for weeks at that point, sometimes I’m unable to breathe it hurt so bad.
I asked him AGAIN to please feel my abdomen there’s a huge lump there. He said there was no point- there was nothing he could do.
I spent 300$ to wait a total of 3 hours for Dr Shah - all for him to spend a total of maybe 15 minutes in ALL ignoring, interrupting, and being overall just a terrible doctor. I told him this, and he immediately raised his voice and told me to leave.
It turns out that my liver is TWICE the size it should be, and is also causing my spleen to become inflamed. If he would’ve read the CT scan results I brought him- he would’ve been able to tell me this. Even if the liver isn’t a gastro issue, it wouldn’t have taken a PHD to tell me that something was very wrong. My liver was actually VISIBLE through my abdomen- the swelling was so bad.
I left crying, and feeling so so very helpless and disrespected. Words can’t even describe how terrible of an experience I had here.
I am 5’6, weigh 120lbs and this is what my belly looked like before I went in.

I have been a patient of Dr. Rajanderan for 20+ years. The staff and Dr. are very nice the wait time is not very long. You can ask questions and get answers without feeling rushed. I am very pleased with Gastroenterology Associates and have and will continue to recommend them to other people.
