The atmosphere is incredibly supportive and respectful, making it an ideal place for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Professor Chris is not only a phenomenal instructor with deep knowledge of Jiu Jitsu, but also an inspiring mentor who genuinely cares about his students’ growth—both on and off the mats.

Our experience with Matakas Jiu Jitsu has been nothing but AMAZING!! When you join this gym you are joining a family! My 6 yr old son has been here for almost a year and has grown so much in mind, body and strength! They are constantly in movement, practicing new techniques and fine tuning old ones. There are so many friendships to be had and wonderful coaches that help to lead and guide these kids. We started in the Tiny Tykes program and promoted to the Youth Program in the time we were here. Only reason we are leaving is because we are military and leaving for a new assignment.

Both of my daughters and I have been attending classes weekly for some time now and love it. One is extremely outgoing, my little one a bit on the shyer side. Coaches Adam and Felix have been pivotal in keeping my eldest engaged and harnessing her wildness into a focused confident student and friend. Coaches Emma and Emily have exercised beautiful patience and inclusion with my little one, helping her feel herself and become this little brave woman. Matakas has become engrained in my family’s daily being, and we all couldn’t be more grateful. The instructors are top notch, the lessons are detailed and any questions you have get addressed and worked over until you’ve got your answer. The mats are clean and friendly, and the words and philosophy of professor Chris really come to be as you train here. It’s a beautiful thing.

I recently relocated to NJ and was in search of a new Jiu Jitsu academy. The minute I arrived for my morning class with Coach Eder and Coach Mike I knew this was the place for me.
The Instructors do an amazing job of breaking down the basics and explaining the techniques.

Hello! I am reaching out just to let you know how much we appreciate Matakas Jiu Jitsu. I am so thankful that one day last January Ava told me " I want to try Jiu Jitsu!"
I think we all know that Coach Adam will always be Ava's #1 😂 and that she has her special Michael Myers connection with Coach Dan, but Coach Emma and Coach Felix are big time favorites as well! Initially Coach Adam's attention and praise really put Ava and ease and made her feel right at home. I feel like there was almost no adjustment period for her - the Matakas crew became her "family" immediately! Prof Chris made this an extremely comfortable setting to express/voice any concerns or questions. I appreciate the attention and the professionalism. Ava is so excited to become a Jr Coach. Jiu Jitsu has become such a huge part of our life and I wouldnt want it any other way. We are so happy to be a part of this positive, happy environment. The tournament was so fun, loved every moment !

My son has been going here and he likes Coach Dan. & Coach Dean. They are always very encouraging and he enjoys their classes. Professor Chris is always so welcoming. The whole place makes you feel very welcomed . It’s like a close family. I would recommend Matakas Jiu Jitsu to build confidence and learn a lifetime skill, while meeting new friends.

I was always interested in trying a class but was super intimated to do so. Met Professor Jim and Coach Dan out and they promised it would NOT be an intimating experience. They were right! MBJJ has a very welcoming and friendly environment. I’ve been training there for over a year and have met many great people. Everyone takes care of one another and makes sure we all can go to work in one piece the next day. Highly recommend Matakas Jiu Jitsu!!
